Kay, so, I went on a four-by-four tour with a friend of Sam's and Travis'. He works for Nomad tours, and we went with five other people (from Sitzerland, Holland, and somewhere where I don't remember) through Skippers Canyon. It was such a beautiful ride. Four hours into the South Island's mountains on a road that just clung to the side of the cliff. There was no aurd rail, and what should have ben a one way, one vehicle road, was a two way double lane gravel road. I asked Jentz (pronounced Yents) if the road ever washed out. He said sometimes it got pretty wet, but never washed away. I found that pretty hard to believe, but then again, I haven't seen a very heavy rain yet. They drive that road in the winter too. That would be super pretty, but I think I would be a little less at ease to be a passenger during that time. I have these pictures up on my Facebook. Mom and dad, if you could find a way to show Grandpa and Grandma, I think they would really enjoy them.
I've met a couple more people, and I'm working on finding someone who may want to tour around with me a bit in the next couple of weeks. If I can't find anyone, that's okay, I think I hanle myself. There's hostels everyhere around here. I can't wait to see the penguins! And after I pick up my friend Rachelle in Feb we're going to head up to the North Island, and hopefully swim with some dolphins! So excited!
I will be going incommunicado (not like I haven't been already lol) for the next three days. Sam an I are going on a three day hike to Milford Sound on the Routeburn track. We will be sleeping in cabins with about six other people every night (had to pay a litte extra for that, but that's fine, we get mattresses instead of rocky ground). I'm VERY excited, and we both expect to be VERY sore when we come back.
I found the biggest spider I've ever seen in real life (not in a cage) today. It was on my bed!!! It's really gross. Sam and I have it trapped under a glass on the kitchen counter so that Travis can see it. I'll post pictures later. It kinda freeks me out, even though I know it's not poisonous. It was IN MY BED!! I woke up the other day and I had roled over a smaller one in my sleep and there were squished body parts all over! EW!!! I hate bugs! I don't know if I'll ever be able to make myself go to Australia. Maybe for a week... Maybe.
Kay, so I'm listening to the weather channel right now, and they're expecting a LOT of rain over the next couple days, so Sam and I are probably going to be wet and crabby by the time we come home. On the up side of it though, we will be ending up in Milford Sound, and that particular area is VERY pretty when it rains because hundreds of waterfalls appear from nowhere. Photo op maybe?
Lol, well I'm totally enjoying myself. Going to a birthday party tonight with Sam and Travis for a Swedish girl name Pu (Pronounced Poo) aka Clara. (But Pu is actually her legal name). VERY nice girl. Super excited to go see her place.
Chaio! (Okay, I know that's not native New Zealand, but I'm already running out of ways to say goodbye. Lol)
